Please join us for a presentation of CEP Affiliate Megan Stein’s MFA Graduating Thesis, titled Tending. The exhibition showcases book works, stone lithography, letterpress / moveable type, handmade paper, screen printing, and soundscapes of field recordings and words translated as tone.
Artist’s Statement
The work I am presenting focuses on my research of the many sides of tenderness, through an experiential and process-based lens. When conceptualizing an exhibition, I turned towards the book. I consider everything presented as a book in some way. Some pieces are bound in the traditional sense, with threads securing their right-hand or top edges. Others are pages that scroll across lengths of the wall; their paste-based-binding a temporarily fixed structure that is untethered to their being. Patches of leaves grow throughout the space, forming connections and creating tethers, while sounds draw one close and call forth from afar.
